Lapitec at Fuorisalone aboard the My Senses tram, designed by Michele Perlini
From 5 to 10 September 2021, during the Fuorisalone event, the historic Milanese tram K35 will travel the streets of Brera district as usual, but with a completely new role as a hub of sensory experiences and social interaction.
Designed by architect Michele Perlini, who has renamed the project “My Senses”, a name which represents a “place within the place”, visitors will have the opportunity to experience a unique interpretation of this celebrated means of transport dating back to the late 1920s.
The carriage, redesigned for the occasion, is a large, furnished open space which retains some of the tram's distinctive features, such as the central lighting and the side, shared and frontal seating. This is then combined with new elements such as central tables and a kitchen island, intended to cultivate conviviality and interaction between passengers.
The finishes in wood, such as the herringbone parquet, wood panelling and benches in environmentally-sustainable fabrics, right up to the brass inserts and the little lamps with blown glass diffusers, are nods to a retro aesthetic that has been revisited with a specific focus on environmental impact and sustainability.
A constant philosophy on the part of Michele Perlini, where the choice of Lapitec as the covering for the table tops and kitchen console fits perfectly. Both are from Lapitec's Musa collection in the Bianco Vittoria shade and the Satin finish. Lapitec is the result of a production process covered by 25 patents, based on a mixture of minerals that are 100% natural and completely silica-free. Its pore-free surface is completely hygienic for passengers, while the delicate veining running through the entire thickness of the slabs underlines the 1930s mood of “My Senses”.
The tram will run at full capacity to complete multiple journeys each day at Fuorisalone, with each trip dedicated to exploring the five senses through workshops, activities, live cooking demonstrations and collateral events, all strongly focused on design.
